hatha yoga is a 5000 year old system that is used to improve the health of your body, mind and spirit. hatha yoga combines the stretching exercises of the asanas. Breathing techniques and mental concentration are included in hatha yoga.

The lotus position of the asanas is used in hatha yoga. The goal of hatha yoga remains the same as that of the other types of yoga. The goal of hatha yoga is to blend the spirit of the universe with that of the human spirit. The spiritual, mental and physical health aspects are improved amazingly with the practice of the hatha yoga. It also gives you peace of mind and improves your concentration. Concentration is the root ingredient of any yoga and its success.

In some ways all the types of yoga are related. Preparing the body to give in is the main goal of hatha yoga. If the mind is relaxed and the spirit within you is enlightened you wont feel the pain and the stress that you are experiencing. This is achieved with the practice of hatha yoga. The other types of yoga that gave rise from hatha yoga are the kundalini, ashtanga, Bikram, and power yoga.

Hatha yoga is considered and known as the vehicle of the soul. Hatha yoga is so relaxing that it drives both you body and spirit into the universe. This feeling can be compared to a person floating with no gravity at all. Many people are easily distracted by the outward forces and may not be able to focus on a particular task. Such people can get benefited with the hatha yoga. By constantly practicing hatha yoga you can find the divinity in yourself. This helps you to become stronger, relaxed and flexible apart from enlightening you.

This Writers' Life: The Cheat Sheet

Im often asked where I get my ideas from or how I go about writing my poetry/lyrics. Truth be told, Im not exactly sure... a thought or feeling will just appear in my head and I will have this dire urge to get pen and paper to get it out. I honestly cant explain it; when the muse strikes, the words just flow out of me and Im left with a poem or lyric.

I do have to come clean about one thing... I dont just sit around waiting for the muse to strike. If I did, I would hardly ever write or get halfway through a piece and the muse decides to leave me to my own vices. I have what I call Cheat Sheets that I can go to should I be separated from my muse.

What is a Cheat Sheet?

A Cheat Sheet is simply a notebook that I keep with me at all times. Inspiration can come at any time, it doesnt care if you are able to work on the idea that instant or not. Quite often inspiration will strike at inopportune moments. It is times like these that my Cheat Sheet comes in handy, I may not be able to work on the poem or lyric right away, but I can jot it down to work on at a later point in time.

The Cheat Sheet often comes in handy if I come across a thought I may be able to work on but unsure of how I will use it. Another great use for the Cheat Sheet is to jot down lines or phrases that catch my attention. I may be working on another piece and the perfect line comes to me... only to see that it has nothing to do with my current project. I can easily store it on my Cheat Sheet to come back to it later.

How often do you spend hours working on a poem only to find yourself stuck on a line or verse? By taking a break and having a look at your Cheat Sheet you may find a solution to the problem or be inspired to start a new writing project while you distance yourself from the problematic piece. The uses of a Cheat Sheet can be endless you are limited only by your imagination.

The Cheat Sheet and Writers Block

Every writer, at some point, will suffer from the dreaded writers block, if like me, you can go months without a single word written. I find that the Cheat Sheet can help in curing writers block; at least to a certain extent. How on earth can a Cheat Sheet cure writers block you ask?

Its simple really, even though you may not have any current inspiration for a writing project, your Cheat Sheet can have hundreds of different ideas, lines, phrases, etc that you were inspired to write down in the past. Its possible that there are dozens of poems, lyric or story ideas within the pages of your Cheat Sheet.

Start simply by looking through your Cheat Sheet, and jot down any of the lines, phrases, etc that may come to you. Failing that, try and group some of these lines into similar themes. Once you have a collection of these thoughts on your new page, take a long look at what you have in front of you. Can you write something using these words? Are there other thoughts that come to mind while looking at them? Continue jotting down any ideas and thoughts that may come to mind and try to start structuring them into a writing piece [be it prose, poetry, lyric, etc].

You will soon discover that you are writing once again, and that the dreaded writers block has dissipated. The writing may or may not be good, I cannot make any promises in that regard, however, you will no longer have a blank page in front of you and will have something to show for your efforts. If it isnt any good then you will have something to continue working on until it is up to scratch.

* * * * * * * * * *

If you are serious about writing, you probably like to write everyday. Having a Cheat Sheet can help eliminate those wasted hours staring at a blank piece of paper (or the blinking cursor on your monitor). With a little forethought and planning, you can have a system set up to help you through many of the problems a writer can face.

November NFL Thoughts

Picked up pieces from the sports betting weekend. A pro handicapper told me about an old betting angle started back in the 1970s which relates to the mid-point of the nfl season. According to him, people bet on any team that starts the season 2-6 or worse for the rest of the year, and against any team that starts 6-2 or better. This is not a formula for hitting 80% winners the rest of the way, but for sports betting grinders. I don't do that, but I can see reasoning behind the angle. You're going against public perception which means, in theory, youre getting a few extra points each week, as teams that that 2-6 are likely to be big dogs the rest of the way, while currently strong teams like the Colts and Broncos will be getting respect from oddsmakers. Just thought I'd pass that wagering angle along.

The Terrell Owens saga is ridiculous. A pampered, problem-child superstar continues to backstab teammates and talk about ME, ME, ME, so the coach throws him off the team. A pat on the back for Andy Reid for making that decision. Football is not about ME, it's about teamwork, working hard and working together. Owens was suspended for sunday night's 17-10 loss at Washington, and will remain suspended for three more games without pay. After that, the Eagles plan to deactivate him for the rest of the season. Does anyone recall the TV speech Owens gave early in preseason, trying to explain his actions? It was embarrassing. Let's hope Owens and his agent aren't dumb enough to go on TV again to try and plead his case.

Athletes wear out their welcome all the time in sports, and most move on to another team for a few years where they often wear out their welcome again. Lost in the shuffle of the Owens' saga is a similar thing that happened in the nfl four years ago. Early in the 2001 season, Patriots All-Pro WR Terry Glenn was being a problem child, missing practices and complaining about a variety of topics. Coach Bill Belichick laid down the law and suspended Glenn. At the time it was a surprise, as New England was short on offensive speed. However, the team showed they were better without Glenn, recovering from an 0-2 start and the sideshow antics by winning the super Bowl, all without Glenn.

In Cleveland, first-year coach Romeo Crennel has the Browns playing hard. A defensive expert, the Cleveland defense is allowing 17 ppg after allowing 24 per game last season. The offense is still short on talent and plays a conservative, grind-it-out style. Notice that the Browns are 7-1 under the total.

The 3-5 Raiders have had a tough schedule and some bitter defeats, losing at home to KC by 6 when a late drive stalled, and at Philly by 3. Sunday's shocking 27-23 loss at Kansas City on the final play was easily the hardest to take. "This is about as bitter a defeat as you could have," said Oakland quarterback Kerry Collins afterward. It's the type of loss that could break the back of a team. Watch for any finger-pointing or complaining by Oakland players over the next few weeks, especially Randy Moss, who hasn't spoken to the press since early September, which is probably a blessing.
